Games, games, games. Thatâs one thing that made me keep my Windows alive. Actually, the first thing I did when I installed Linux, about an age ago was to check out the Games section in, what I called then, the âstart menuâ and until today, the primary objective in taking a look at somebodyâs new mobile is to click the Games menu. Thatâs who I am, a cold-blooded, amoral gamer!
Seriously, do you remember the good old 90s with their, what, â64 bitâ Nintendo or Sega? Sonic ârules, dudeâ! I used to play Street Fighter or Super Mario for hours and when I first launched Test Drive 5 (I think it was 1998, wasnât it?) I though it was so realistic, just like being in that car and I can still recall that track in Russia where you are chased by those evil soviet machines called Lada! Not that I ignored my real friends, we played hide and seek or football, but our real passion has always been âvirtual gamesâ.
However, I donât think Iâm one of those âdevotedâ gamers, since I almost never play a game until Iâve smashed every single living creature or raced with every single car. I know people who still spend hours in front of, for example, Starcraft and I have some secret jealousy about that but my âgamingâ can be compared to my eating - I do it as long as I need to even if I have to leave it half âundoneâ.
How many games have you played?
Donât count Wolfenstein, Heretic or Doom, because weâre talking about âmodernâ or recent games. Hereâs how it goes: if youâve played from 1 to 10 games give yourself 5 point, from 11 â 20 you get 10 points, 21 to 40 15 points. You donât have to own these games, but you have to have spent at least 3 hours playing each. Iâll have to give myself 15 points here âcause Iâve played over 40 games just last year.
Whatâs the average time you isolate yourself from the world we know and love?
Console games tend to distract you more, by the way! I donât really know why, but itâs a fact. Anyway, weâre talking daily here or at least ⌠erm ⌠daily and donât forget that this is your average time, so donât cheat with âOh, Iâve played for 24 hours once!â
If you play from 1 to 3 hours â you get 5 points, if you play from 4 to 6 hours you get 10 points and if you practice your gaming skills anymore than that you can add 15 points to your score.
How bad are you?
Oh, thatâs an issue for so many people. A lot of gamers tend to smash stuff like keyboards, mice, monitors, desks and their own nerves while playing some difficult levels. I usually limit myself to verbal indignation at those, letâs say, âcurrent obstaclesâ, although one of my keyboards still has injuries from a Coke that I spilt all over it because of a dirty little bastard who wanted to blow my brains out last year. Heâs dead now⌠and uninstalled.
Anyway, hereâs how you get score. Youâll have to be extremely honest here! If you donât have any issues with not being able to proceed to the next level give yourself 5 points, if you, just like me, use only words with, usually, four letters, you get 10 points and if you smash and demolish innocent non-moral objects youâve earned your 15 points.
How persistent are you?
I, as already mentioned, have issues with that one. I donât play something very much if it doesnât work âmy wayâ. If you do the same thing you get 5 points, if you play it at least 75 % of the game (meaning you put some efforts) youâll acquire 10 points and if you play it until itâs all done, than unlock the secrets you, sure as ⌠erm ⌠something sure, get 15 points.
Are you man/woman of many skills?
Thatâs something we can argue about. I think that one should never play just one type of games, say, racing and nothing else. However, itâs everybody for themselves (deathmach), BUT (hereâs the big but) weâre talking about hardcore gamers so if you ignore everything but one genre (like jumpânârun) youâll get 5 points, if you play similar types of games, like, different kinds of strategies you get 10 points and if you like to race, shoot, kill, run, and command (not necessarily in that order) you have your 15 points!
Whatâs your social status?
As in, do you have any other activities than playing games (5 points), do you talk about games with your friends all the time (10 points) or are you completely lost in the virtual reality (15 points, although if you were, you wouldnât have been reading this now)
Last, but not least, do you cheat?
Thatâs not a stupid question because so many people cheat and something should be done! I mean, I cheat, too, but not that often and if youâre like me, you get 10 points, if your first job when you get a new game is to search Google for cheats you get 5 points and for every honest gamer we give 15 points.
Your score:
Sum up your points and divide them to 10. If youâve picked every 15 point answer, you should have a score of 15 which makes you a hardcore player of all times and maybe, just maybe, you might want to consider some professional help. For everybody else:
0.5 - 3.5 â Youâre not a gamer, you just like to chill out with some nice games from time to time, thatâs good!
4 â 6 â Youâre the average gamer, just like me. We play for fun, sometimes it takes a lot of time, but we know our limits! Thatâs the best way, I think (not because I ended up here :) )
6.5 â 10 â Youâre a heavy gamer. You like your games and you play them hard. As long as this doesnât interfere with your social life, thereâs nothing wrong with it or you⌠probably!
Play games, people, thereâs nothing wrong with doing so. Donât trust those guys who say they are extremely, very bad thing â they are wrong, as long as you now where to stop.
