The sound quality of Skype telephony is one of the most amazing aspects of the technology. Skype offer a paid subscription service which allows you to record your conversations. This is not the only way to create an mp3 file of your phone call.
Dedicated software has been created which has to be run at the same time as Skype. Such programs can be set up to automatically record every single call you make if you so wish. One of the most highly recommended by computer magazines and the package that I use is called Pamela. It has lots of different versions of the program ranging from a free, to basic, to professional, to business versions – with increasing price tags.
In the past Pamela has been prone to problems of crashing whilst in mid conversation. It was really annoying when you found out that an important recording had been lost forever. However, I am pleased that these gripes are now a thing of the past; Pamela 3 seems to be nice and stable.
As well as being able to record calls, Pamela also acts as a voicemail service. However, I personally prefer Skype’s own voicemail add on, which doesn’t you require to have your computer switched on in order for it to work. Pamela is great for voice recording, but as far as I’ve seen, that’s about it.
This ability to record broadcast quality conversations across the globe from the convenience of any location equipped with a PC is nothing short of revolutionary. It has never been easier for recorded conversations to be shared with literally the whole planet. Once a conversation has been recorded, it can be published on the internet as a podcast – something that Pamela can also do for you. Using a podcast directory such as iTunes, listeners can easily find, download, and listen to your audio files as and when is most convenient for them.
This technology is transforming the media for the better. It seems like no niche is too small, with podcasts covering anything you can think of, from underwater childbirth to cross country snowboarding. However bizarre your interests are, the chances are that there is a podcast on it.
