Challenge To Sat-Navs By The Launch OF Nokia Ovi Maps

According to the analysts, the stand-alone sat-nav devices could have to face challenge after the launching of a free map and navigation service by the giant of phone maker, Nokia, for its handsets. The maps are being stored on the phones. It will save the time of the consumers, which they used to spend on the updating and downloading of the software, over the network.
Initially this service will only be provided to 10 handsets and will offer so called turn-by-turn navigation, which will be similar to that in existing GPA devices. Local data from travel guide will be displayed on the handsets. Users will also get the facility of posting their location to Facebook. Nokia is now expecting the building of new applications for the service, by third party developers.
The executive vice president of Nokia, Anssi Vanjoki, at the launch has said that it will work just like a giant mach-up environment. According to an estimation of Nokia, the company had sold 83 millions phones that can use the service, which can easily be downloaded for free of cost form firm`s Ovi application store. Nokia has started to preload it on all compatible phones offered by the firm.
