The company Automattic, known, above all, by its software platform WordPress and the blog-service of the same name, has received financial support amounting to almost 30 million dollars.
WordPress is a popular content management system with open source, distributed on the terms of the GNU GPL license. WordPress platform can be used to create a variety of web resources - from blogs to news sites. Among the main features of WordPress there are: ease of installation and configuration, support of plug-ins, as well as the possibility of publishing with the help of third-party programs and services.
The first rumors that Automattic received additional investment appeared in blogs a few days ago. Later this information confirmed officially. According this information, the existing investors Polaris, True and Radar were joined by the known American company The New York Times, the publisher of the newspaper of the same name. The New York Times calls the figure of 29.5 million dollars.
Wall Street Journal also notes that a few months ago Automattic rejected the proposal on the purchase from some major Internet company. Apparently, the working capital will be directed at improving the capacity of the platform WordPress. In addition, a part of the money could be used for paying debts to early investors.
