ICQ recommends not to use its clones
18th January 2009
The company spread a message addressed to all ICQ users. The message runs that users of messengers using ICQ IM-service should beware of such analogies as QIP, QIP Infium, Jimm (a mobile version of the client ICQ), Miranda, Jabber and others because they are not supported by ICQ. When they are activated you can have troubles and also get under the risk of stealing your password. Instead, the company recommends that you pay attention to supported versions of the program: multi-functional ICQ-client 6.5 and ICQ Lite, as well as an official localized version of Rambler-ICQ and coming up versions of Web IM & Mobile IM.
Ofer Oved, a vice-president of ICQ points out, that various ICQ-cones can be simply dangerous as they do not provide secure connection. In a way, such statements seem to many people as just an attempt to surpass their competitors. ICQ representatives also say that, though it makes no difference to many users which client to use, it is still better to use ICQ as it is better in all aspects.
We can not argue whether it is true or not, at the end, it`s up to you to decide.
