IE7 spreads via WSUS
31st January 2008
In mid-February Internet Explorer 7 begins spreading via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). That was reported by PC World, referring to the information given by Microsoft.
Service WSUS is intended, primarily to corporate clients and runs under operating systems Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003. The plugin allows, in particular, to manage the spread of updates within the local network and their installation to workstations for staff. WSUS provides reducing external traffic and the time required to update computers.
It is known that, after February, 12 Internet Explorer 7 will be automatically loaded on the computers of corporate networks, system administrators of which use WSUS. Thus, Microsoft intends to accelerate the process of migration of users from sixth to seventh version. According to the developers, Internet Explorer 7 has a high reliability and stability, and, accordingly, would enhance the security of the entire Windows infrastructure as a whole.
Companies, which for any reason do not wish to abandon IE6, are recommended by Microsoft to change their WSUS settings to avoid the automatic download of the seventh version.
