New format for viewing 3D models in cell phones
9th January 2008
The Indian company 3D Solid Compression (or just 3DSoC) has set itself the ambitious task: bringing 3D to the masses. It is the development of a new format that will enable compressing three-dimensional models to the size not exceeding conventional image files GIF and JPEG. Files in the format developed by 3DSoc are 15-20 times smaller than those which can be obtained with the help of other tools for optimizing 3D models, including Google Sketchup. This format will provide extensive use of 3D data in cell phones. Currently, it is virtually impossible due to the fact that memory of portable devices is insufficient to work with 3D files of large size.
The new format is ready, and at this moment 3DSoC is actively looking for partners among the developers of operating systems and manufacturers of mobile devices. If the results of cooperation are positive, the partner-companies will equip portable devices with tools for viewing files in the new format and cell phones` screens will show the third somension.
