29th January 2010
According to one official, it has been planned by the President of U.S Barack Obama that he would propose a hike in the taxes that are being paid by the financial institutions, which will help in recouping the cost used for bailing them out. It has been reported by The Washington Post that one senior administration official has said that the increase of the taxes in the largest financial institutes of the nation would go up by 90 billion dollars during the period of the next ten years, while reining in the ability of the industry for taking larger risks as well as realizing the great rewards.
This proposal would need the approval of the Congress and would also be a part of the draft budget proposal of Obama as said by the official. He said that the bigger financial institutions had been taking advantage from the program of the Troubled Asset Relief which intended for helping the overall economy of the United States and the public is entitled to have a greater share of the money, as said in The Washington Post.
The officials said that when you are trying to value the degree of the advantage that they had been receiving from this exceptional assistance from the government that was not aimed at providing help to certain companied but was aimed at giving help to the economy at large, which is essentially the minimum it could do.
