PandaLabs makes forecasts for 2009
14th January 2009
PandaLabs predicts permanent increasing number of attacks in 2009 by means of various malware (viruses, trojans, worms, etc...)
Banking Trojans and fake anti-viruses in 2009 will dominate. As for methods of spreading malware, PandaLabs forecasts increased use of social networks. It is not just about worms spreading from one person to another, but also about other malicious programs designed to perform much more dangerous acts such as theft of confidential information.
Hackers are sure to uses the technology of packing malicious codes. This technology implies compressing malicious code to make it difficult to detect. Cyber-criminals try to avoid the standard tools available in forums, websites, etc., and use their own techniques of hiding traces, which is not surprising.
Panda Security Laboratory also forecast a significant increase in the number of malicious software aimed at new platforms, such as Mac OS Leopard X, Linux, or iPhone. However, these new codes are sure not to be so popular as their “colleges” for Windows systems.
