Scunia: Red Hat and Firefox contains more errors than Microsoft
30th January 2008
The company Secunia has revealed the results of its study on the number of mistakes in the security system of different applications and operating systems. According to the results, for the last year the number of errors in Red Hat Linux operating system and the browser Firefox has turned out more than that in the competitive Microsoft products.
On the other hand, vulnerabilities of the security system in Firefox get closed, as a rule, faster than those in Internet Explorer. Of the eight dangerous errors discovered in 2007, five was closed, three of them being eliminated in a week. Of the ten dangerous bugs found in Internet Explorer only three were fixed. And none of them was patched earlier than in 85 days.
As for operating systems, the most part of vulnerabilities were recorded in Red Hat, while for 99 per cent they were related to the components created by third-party developers. The second place belongs to the operating system Solaris, where 252 errors were found. On the third place Mac OS X occurred and on the fourth Windows is situated, which contained 123 errors. As a matter of fact, virtually all of them concerned the operating system itself, not additional components.
