Single authentication system is tested by Yahoo
28th January 2008
The company Yahoo begins testing the system of united OpenID authentication, due to which users will be able to apply the same ligament of login and password to access a variety of web services.
The platform OpenID is an open decentralized single log-in system. Its protocol was developed by a creator of the popular online service LiveJournal diaries. Further improvements were made to the specification by many experts and companies.
On sites that support the platform OpenID, visitors will not have to register and keep in mind their personal data. Instead, users can simply register on the “provider`s” OpenID site, after which they will be able to work with all Web services compatible with this protocol.
Yahoo is the very company that will be the “provider” of identification. In other words, having registered on the site of Yahoo, users will be able to interact with other services with the support of OpenID protocol 2.0. In their turn, the web sites using OpenID, will be able to add to their authorization pages the button, “Sign-in with Your Yahoo! ID” for quick log-in. Thus, there would be no need for users to create multiple accounts and remember passwords to access various services.
