Small companies actively upgrade to Vista
24th January 2008
As it is noted in a recent report of the dealership company CDW, based on data from Walker Information, about half of U.S. companies are preparing or are already implementing the transition to the operating system Windows Vista. In February last year, only 29% of organizations thought over the implementation of the latest OS by Microsoft. By November, that figure rose to 48%. Approximately 35% are now switching to Vista. In February last year, their number did not exceed 12%.
Since the first release of Vista, this is the third report of CDW on the introduction of the new OS. Notably, most interest in Vista belongs to small business - they account for about 53% of the total number of companies introducing or testing a new operating system, reports InfoWorld.
The second place on the introduction of Vista belongs to education facilities (49%), the third goes to the companies- representatives of medium and large business.
CDW itself sells not only Windows Vista, but the previous OS, Windows XP. CDW, however, does not have the exact data on which OS out of two sells better. Despite the fact that Microsoft is actively promoting a new programming platform, the demand for computers running under Windows XP among corporate customers is still at a fairly high level. The point is that Windows Vista is not compatible with all software products applicable in the corporate sphere; there is also the problem of compatibility with certain hardware devices. In addition, Vista has high enough hardware requirements for PC, what results in additional expenses, not available for many companies. That is why, in September last year, Microsoft decided to extend the deadline for supplying Windows XP to the equipment manufacturers for other five months.
Anyway, most specialists strongly believe that upgrade to Vista is just the matter of time.
However, considering that Microsoft is already preparing another operating system, developed under the code name Windows Vista 7, some companies may as well wait for it, rather than install the current version of Vista, as the release of Vista 7 is scheduled for the end of 2009 - beginning of 2010.
