SYesterday, it became known that the companies Hewlett-Packard and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) signed a cooperation agreement. Under this contract SPHE is licensing a part of its extensive video library for distribution through HP Service “ordered DVD production”.
According to the President of SPHE David Bishop, today there is a steady demand for video for home viewing. Collaboration with HP will allow SPHE to take profit out of their video archive and provide users with content, not investing significant resources in the creation of DVD. While the companies do not specify which party will sponsor digitizing the content, how long the range of available products will be, and how the company intends to divide the revenue from DVD sales.
HP Service was launched a year ago. The service produces DVD with movies, TV shows and other video, regardless of how popular the content is. Today, the service produces discs with classical and old television shows, which had never been published on DVD before, foreign films, specialized shows on such topics as religion, education, lifestyle, nutrition and sports. Currently, the video service of HP is being supplied by 40 content providers.
