Storm congratulates on St.Valentine`s Day
24th January 2008
The experts on computer security fro the organization of SANS warned us of another spate of activity of the malware Storm.
The worm of Storm appeared earlier this year and over the time of its existence has already brought a lot of trouble to Internet users. The network of “zombied” computers, created by hackers with the help of Storm, at the peak of its power, by some estimates, numbered about 50 million computers. Thanks to the efforts of antivirus companies, the Storm network started losing its force, but now it is actively used for mass mailings.
According to the SANS Institute, the other day Internet users began receiving messages of congratulations on the St. Valentine's Day. The body of the letters indicates a link to a certain site, at visiting which the user sees a picture of the heart and gets notified on the beginning of downloading a file. It is not difficult to guess, that this file is the very program of Storm.
Experts point out that the tactic of spreading Storm brings nothing new. The January attack is quite similar to that of December and earlier ones. Frankly speaking, it is only the mere theme of event that changes.
