Panda Security Laboratory found that the number of new viruses that appeared in 2007 has grown by 10 times compared with the previous year.
During last year, Panda Security Laboratory every day received, on average, more than 3000 copies of the new malicious codes. This is a situation similar to the epidemic, which, being inconspicuous and neglected by mass media, without extensive warnings, presents extraordinary danger to the users.
In percentage, the number of new threats that emerged in 2007, increased by 800% compared to 2006.
This means that the rate of growth in the number of malicious code is increasing year in, year out. Such conclusions are obvious, if we look at the results of the study by PandaLabs, which showed that 23% of home PCs are infected with malicious code, despite the fact that they are equipped with up-to-date security solutions.
There is a similar situation in corporate environments. According to the same study, almost 72% of networks that include more than 100 work-stations turned out infected with malicious codes.
