Lotus Symphony Beta 4: now with support of plug-ins
29th February 2008
IBM Company has released the fourth beta version of free office pack Lotus Symphony. Lotus Symphony includes such programs as Symphony Documents, Symphony Presentations and Symphony Spreadsheet. Lotus Symphony supports Windows (XP, Vista), and Linux (Suse Enterprise, Red Hat 5) operating systems. Symphony can operate with different formats of documents, including those that are used in MS Office. By default, documents are saved in ODF. Documents can also be saved from the program in PDF.
The main innovation of this release is the availability of a package for developers using which you can create your own add-ons for the program. Besides, this version has an accelerated spell checking, the support of Excel (xls) files protected by a password (now such files can be opened in Symphony), and encryption of documents in Lotus Documents, Lotus Spreadsheets and Lotus Presentations. Also it is worth mentioning the support of Euro currency, multilingual installer, the ability to insert slides from the existing files in Lotus Symphony Presentations.
Symphony Package is available for free download, but users must be registered and receive a free IBM ID number.
