Orbicule Undercover: returning stolen Macs to their legal owners
18th February 2009
The Company Orbicule, a developer of the popular software of Undercover for Macs, reported on the equipping their product with WiFi-positioning mechanisms.
This new feature allows collecting more data on a stolen computer, in case the thief turns on the device and connects it to the network. Orbicule Undercover is a universal alarm for portable Macs, which allow you to find a stolen laptop and to inform the police about its current location. The most recent version of the line, Undercover 3 is a compact app, remaining completely invisible to the ordinary user.
In the case of thieving a laptop with this app, the owner only needs to enter a code number issued at the registration to the Orbicule server. Undercover regularly exchanges data with the server and in case of changing the device`s status it automatically activates the monitoring mode. Under this mode, Undercover sends to the server screenshots, data on network connections and other useful information, to identify the offender.
Thanks to the abovementioned new feature the laptop owner now can have the WiFi-environment scan results, the so-called instant snapshots of WiFi. This, according to the developers, greatly increases chances to have your computer back.
