Phishing attack on Google mail
26th February 2009
No sooner managed Google to solve the problem with their postal service, than another problem arouse. Users of the instant messaging system, present in Gmail, underwent a phishing attack. The attackers used Google Talk. They sent Gmail users a fairly traditional in such cases, message asking them to “rate this video” inviting to go to a certain link. The link led to the site called ViddyHo, which asked users to enter their login and password of an account on Gmail.
Thus attackers gained access to contact lists and e-mails of more people. After receiving complaints from users, Google blocked the addresses from which the attack was carried out, while the resource of ViddyHo.com was put into appropriate lists and marked in search results as dangerous.
