Symantec turns one computer into three
2nd February 2009
The company Symantec held an event called Innovation Showcase, where three new technologies were introduced, expected to come out pretty soon.
One of them, VIBES (Virtualization-Based Endpoint Security) is based on a bundle of technologies Linux / VMWare Workstation. It is designed to protect Internet users from downloading and execution of malicious files and also to protect from possible theft of personal information. For example, if a user wants to open a file downloaded from the Internet, the system automatically creates a special virtual machine where the file will open in an isolated environment. Even if opening the file infects the system, it will damage only the virtual machine, which can be immediately destroyed without affecting the core operating environment.
If a user decides to open a protected web site on the HTTPS protocol, VIBES will create another virtual machine, fully protected, called Trusted Virtual Machine. Thus, VIBES turns a single computer user into three. At the Symantec is working on VIBES the release date being unknown.
The other technology is called GoEverywhere. It is an online working environment for access to Web- applications from any device connected to the Internet.
The third technology, presented at Innovation Showcase, is DeepClean. To use it you need to install a hardware system Enterprise Perimeter Sensor, to analyze all Internet traffic into a corporate network and check all files downloaded from the Internet.
