Henceforth using OpenID more than 248 million of registered users of Yahoo can use the same sheaf of login and password for getting access to various web services. At present OpenID protocol is supported by 10 thousand websites.
Platform OpenID is an open decentralized system of a unified sign. Its protocol was developed by Brad Fitzpatrick, the developer of the popular service of online diaries LiveJournal. Further improvements to the specification were made by many experts and companies.
On sites that support OpenID platform, visitors do not need register and remember their personal data. Instead, it`s just enough to register beforehand on site of OpenID “provider”, after which you can work with all web services compatible with this protocol.
Yahoo Company will play the role of 'provider' of identification: after you are registered on Yahoo site, you are able to interact with other services with the support of OpenID 2.0 protocol. For their turn, web sites which are using OpenID, can add to their authorization pages the registration button with the help of Yahoo symbol for a quick entrance. Thus, there would be no need for users to create multiple accounts and remember passwords to access various services in Web.
