Beta version of Google Desktop 5 has been released

Google released a beta version of Google Desktop 5, meant to search information on local drives of computer. Personal desktop search, software Google Desktop can index text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics and music files of common formats, e-mails and so on. Results are displayed in a browser window in the form of list with links. At present, the Google Desktop supports Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and Netscape. One of the major distinctions of the Google Desktop 5 beta version from the previous modifications of the program is revamped side toolbar. The toolbar interface is performed in the style of Windows Vista, which went on sale on January 30 this year. Through side toolbar users, as before, can gain access to the so-called gadgets, small utilities, outputting information in a convenient form or performing some functions. Gadgets, for instance, can display information from Google Calendar or social network Orkut. By the way, a gadget for Google Desktop can be created by anybody, who wants to, through special tools. Desktop search software of Google Desktop is available for free. Beta version of Google Desktop 5 runs under Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. Size of distributive file is 1.8 MB.
