DAVID 2.3: 3D scanning
5th March 2009
The new version of DAVID, a free program scan objects in 3D to further turn them into 3D-models.
The scanning itself requires a camera (or web-camera) and a laser pointer. You set an object in the corner of the room, switch on the camera and begin pointing to an object with the laser, thus, capturing 3D coordinates of the surface.
Immediately after you have scanned the object, the obtained 3D-model can be viewed in an a built-in OpenGL-viewer. The result can be saved in OBJ and used to work with different 3D-editors. There is also a commercial version of the program DAVID Proessional Edition, meant for professionals.
