IBM releases Lotus Symphony Beta 4
20th March 2008
The company of IBM has released an updated version of the free office suite Lotus Symphony Beta 4. It improves a frequent error in downloading XML content. The developers recommend downloading and installing the new version to all users of the package. The updated version can be installed above the old one.
Lotus Symphony includes the programs of Symphony Documents, Symphony Presentations and Symphony Spreadsheet. Lotus Symphony supports operating systems Windows (XP, Vista) and Linux (Suse Enterprise, Red Hat 5). Symphony can work with different formats of documents, including those used in MS Office. By default, the documents are saved into ODF. Documents also can be saved from the program of PDF.
The main innovation of the fourth beta version is the availability of the package for developers, by means of which one can create his/her own additions to the program. In addition, this version accelerates spelling, adds support of Excel files (xls) protected by a password (now you can open these files in Symphony), and encryption of documents in Lotus Documents, Lotus Spreadsheets and Lotus Presentations.
The Symphony package is available for free download, but users must be registered and receive a free IBM ID number.
