There is nothing dreadful about that. New York Times published an opinion of one of its authors on the current situation and prospects of development of the Internet, which is threatened by significant changes.
The studies and forecasts of the Cisco company show, that till 2010, the volume of traffic consumption worldwide will be about 100 million terabytes. Moreover, great part in this proportion will belong to Internet TV.
The transfer of such data volumes is likely to lead to a serious deficit in transferring capacity. According to experts` forecasts, it is in 2011, when the demand for traffic should exceed the supply.
The sites like YouTube and the similar to it, has already demonstrated the ability to raise Internet traffic consumption for the sake of entertainment, but there are still things that will be of great demand even in at relatively slow connections. Even if such phenomena as filling Internet-diaries with pictures and videos disappears, there will be certainly a way to make more efficient use of available channels.
The strong belief in the vitality of the Internet is not just blind faith in technological progress; it is an objective look at the things that can be observed today. At least, look at iPhone and sites optimized for it. This kind of compact and requiring mini-channels solutions will be able to get over the Second World “flood”, which threatens drown the World Wide Web in its own “blood”, i.e., traffic. In other words, broadband access is, sure, great, but a good question remains: who is going to win? Massive sites of large-sized headings and monstrous browsers or ascetic but efficient small systems. The time will show…
