Kaspersky Lab believes Windows Vista is poorly protected
24th March 2007
According to The Kaspersky Lab, Windows Vista is protected worse than Windows XP, with SP2. The experts came to this conclusion by checking the User Account Control (UAC), built in Vista and responsible for managing users accounts and separation of users rights. Laboratory specialists found a number of ways to bypass the UAC for the purpose of obtaining access to the system and to limit the rights of the administrator. In addition, the KL confirmed the opinion of Symantec and McAfee that protection system of the core of Windows Vista Patchguard complicates development of anti-virus software for this operating system. Microsoft representatives were very surprised at the conclusion, made by experts of Kaspersky Lab, as the anti-virus company is one of the best partners of the software giant.
