Manhunt 2 is to go on sale in UK
31st March 2008
The game of Manhunt 2 finally has been certified for sales in the UK. Initially, the game was scheduled to be released on July, 13, 2007, but British Board of Film Classification refused to certify the product, reports Gamespot. The experts explained their decision by the general frustration of the product`s atmosphere, as well as by the constantly repeated scenes of violence and sadism in Manhunt 2. This led to a ban on selling the game in the country.
Finally, the developers from Rockstar Games released an edited version of the game, which was permitted in the United States and many European countries. In Britain, however, this version was also turned down by the organization which banned it again. The creators gave notice of appeal to the organization Video Appeals Committee, which lifted the BBFC decision and recommended to certify Manhunt 2 as “18 +”.
Soon, however, BBFC took an unprecedented step and filed a petition to the Supreme Court, explaining the decision of VAC by misreading British laws. The judge agreed and sent to VAC recommendations according to which VAC`s experts were to reconsider their decision.
On March, 14, 2008, seven weeks after the last trial, Manhunt 2 was finally allowed for sale in the UK. BBFC continues believing that the game is a danger to society, however, now they have nothing to do, but certify Manhunt 2 as “18 +”.
