Microsoft is sued for saving history in IE
10th March 2007
U.S. citizen has sued Microsoft for $ 200,000, after Internet Explorer has been unable to delete the history of his visiting pornographic sites. Michael Alan Crooker bought HP computer with Windows XP and Internet Explorer on the site Circuit City and was sure that all this will be able to protect his personal data. Shortly after the successful purchase Crooker was arrested at his home on suspicion of firearms keeping. At the same time police paid attention also to his computer, which gave them a clear idea of the sites of he visited, as well as video of Crooker`s “entertainment” with his girlfriend. For data protection DriveLoc was used, that blocks access to HDD in the absence of password and login. However, the FBI managed to get over the protection, and got access to all information on the HDD. It turned out, that in IE an option was set up to remove the history every five days. Crooker did not think that deleted data can be recovered. Now the first on a waiting list is Microsoft, according to Crooker, HP and Circuit City have already received notification of the start of trials against them. In the meantime, Crooker himself will be put on trial for sale of modified firearms and equipment for the bombs.
