MySpace forgot extortionists

Two residents of New York who had been trimming $ 150000 form the social network MySpace were put on probation on Monday. 19 y.o. Sean Harrison and 20 y.o. Saverio Mondelli could have gone to jail for 4 years each but managed to get away with it, after they confessed in the development of a computer program, which calculates users of social network - Associated Press reports. Saverio Mondelli and Sean Harrison on their Web site offered users to purchase spy software for $ 29, 95. The program traces e-mail and IP addresses of MySpace users and, thus, helps to identify their names. Once Administration of MySpace learnt about this â€œbusinessâ€, the two young men were sent a letter requesting an immediate halt to illegal acts. But the guys were rather hard to get scared and send a reply. In the letter they reported that agreement can be achieved and they would stop spending the spy software only if MySpace paid them $ 150,000. Of course, MySpace was not going to pay and appealed to the police. Although they acted under nicknames, it did not take long to identify the blackmailers and already in May last year they were arrested. After the offenders had confessed in creating spy software the charge of extortion were withdrawn. According to the lawyer, Paul Gebberta defending young blackmailers, prosecutors reasoned that Harrison and Mondelli made a mistake, because of their youth and gave them a chance to rectify that. And the guys really got away with it: instead of going to prison, they were just put on probation for 3 years each. According to the Court's decision, Harrison and Mondelli will have strictly limited access to computers, will be required to use only one e-mail address and have to pay $13,500 to MySpace as compensation. In addition, they are barred from access to social network. If they break at least one of these requirements, then will be thrown to jail immediately. MySpace representatives also stated that they know a few else companies that offer users to spy software as well. Currently, MySpace is trying to prevent their illegal activity.
