PandaLabs reports: new trojan Ldpinch.ZO steals confidential data

24th March 2007

Anti-virus laboratory PandaLabs reported about appearance of LdPinch.ZO, a new dangerous trojan developed specifically for the theft of personal users’ data. This malicious code spreads through attached e-mails or Internet-downloads. When launching, it opens Windows Explorer with pictures of sexual content. The images are intended to divert attention of a victim while the trojan is copying its file into the system. This file is intended to steal passwords, login details, telephone numbers used for connecting to Internet and so on. LdPinch.ZO collects the abovementioned information from browsers (FireFox, Mozilla, Internet Explorer, ...), Ftp-clients (CuteFTP, SmartFTP, ...), programs for instant messaging and other sources. The trojan sends the collected information to its creators via e-mail, and the creators already may use such information for fraudulent aims: the theft of bank data, confidential information, etc. "Corporate spying is only one of many possible applications of this type of trojans. The companies employees can store confidential data on their computers or email accounts. Through trojan LdPinch.ZO, a tresspasser could easily take this data and then sell them to rival companies or use them for their own purposes, "explains Luis Corrons, technical director of PandaLabs. LdPinch.ZO also opens a port through which an attacker can get access the command line, use it to perform certain actions on the infected computer, and even for remote control. If the firewall warns user about suspicious internet-connection, Ldpinch.ZO can imitate pressing “OK” to continue web-connection for information theft. All users, willing to know whether their computers were infected with these and other malicious programs can use Panda ActiveScan, free online solution, which can be found at: www.pandasoftware.com / activescan. It allows users to scan their computers properly. You can also use beta NanoScan, online scanner, which identifies all active Malware on the computer in less than 60 seconds.
