Semantec: Teredo protocol for Vista is attackacable
21st March 2007
The Teredo protocol for Windows Vista is potentially vulnerable to attacks, Symantec experts say. In November, the company only put this assumption, but since the study carried out, it became clear, that assumptions have not been vain. Teredo protocol is used to transmit IP butches IPv6 through traditional IP networks IPv4. The problem is that at the present time there is no firewall that can handle the Teredo, and thus the use of the protocol allows to avoid any filter packages. Furthermore, firewall and intrusion detection system (IDS) can not decompress twice compressed TCP or UDP traffic-first in IPv6, and then in IPv4, and the attack packages, thus, will be able to enter the corporate network with applications running on IPv6, told EWeek.com.
