Social sites will have to refine terms of registration?
11th March 2007
Social Networks again caused hot legislative disputes, this time in the state of Kentucky. Local authorities are discussing, whether it is necesary to put users age filter for sites like MySpace, and if parental permission is needed for registration. A bill was proposed by state head prosecutr Richard Blumenthal, meant to protect children from sexual concerned users. The bill can become the first in the United States, regulating work of growing social portals, where millions of teenagers communicate every day, so strictly. According to Blumental, ensuring absolute security is impossible, but the bill will be able to help parents to protect their children from unwanted effects caused by visiting such sites. He also added that about 10 to 20 states are discussing the same restrictions at the moment. Blumental proposes to bring a system of penalties for social portals, up to $ 5,000 in each case of faulty verification of a user. The bill is not directed against the owners of sites, it is merely intended to help parents, believes Blumental.
