Switching on street lamps with SMS

The authorities if of several German cities reported on introducing the innovative street lighting system. This curious development will significantly reduce power consumption and, consequently, accompanying costs.
Now, any of the street lamps can be turned off by residentsâ€™ request. To turn off this or that street lamp, city dwellers have to send SMS-message to a special number indicated on a lamppost.
Besides, if you can not go asleep because of the lamp beneath your window, you can put it out yourself. The system has been successfully tested in several German cities. The testing showed reduction in costs of more than â‚¬4000 in only one town.
