Symantec remembers PatchGuard again.
4th March 2007
Symantec, known for its extremely negative attitude towards PatchGuard, component of the Vista core in 64-bit versions of the system, released in the Internet PDF document for free information, which demonstrates opinions of independent researchers, as well as a demonstration of PatchGuard cracking in a beta version of Vista. Symantec comments this demonstration as following: "As we have seen in the development of Windows Vista, and after its release, hackers can crack PatchGuard-and will they do it ".Ken Johnson, a member of one of the companies working closely with Microsoft took part in creating this document. To his mind, it is just an appeal to Microsoft, urging the company "wake up", "Each demonstrated technology of cracking the security has a lot of way for Microsoft to improve the security in the future ". In addition, Symantec drew attention to other innovations of Vista security to protect users from installing potentially harmful programs of other developers. Symantec has once again made a conclusion about PatchGuard : "Internal mechanisms for the core protection , presented in64-bit can be ut a very short-time guard on the way of offenders. These technologies can hold hackers for some time, but ultimately will not be able to provide greater protection against attack .
