The European Commission is not satisfied with Microsoft protocols.
4th March 2007
European Commission has made additions to the resolution concerning Microsoft, accepted in March 2004. In particular, Microsoft gives incomplete information for the study and lacks innovation significance in some protocols, what is required to take money for using them. Claims were announced by a member of the Competitiveness Inquiry Commission Neelie Kroes "These protocols have only relative innovation, they are based on a previous Microsoft patents. Microsoft in its turn has agreed with our opinion." The European Commission took up the issue after years of complaints of software developers, who pointed out to groundless payments for using communication protocols, which were under Microsoft patents. Now there are two ways of solving the software giant case: either make the protocols free or devoid them of patent status. There are 51 protocols, considered by the commission at the moment.
