There will be a lot of new functions in Firefox 3.0
2nd March 2007
In the second half of this year final version of Firefox 3.0 is coming out. The developers promise that the product will contain many new features, reports InfoWorld. The first alpha-version of Firefox 3.0 was presented by Mozilla.org in December last year. This upgrade of software product was primarily meant for developers and not recommended to be installed by average users. In February the second alpha version of the browser was released, that supports a large number of graphic standards, has elaborated system of favorites, offers higher security and stability of work. Mozilla project vice-president Mike Shrepfer said that the final version of the browser will have offline support web. For example, it would be possible to write letters in Gmail being offline and they will be sent as soon as a user is connected to the internet. Firefox is already compatible with Zimbra post service and is likely to be integrated with Gmail, Hotmail and other postal services. The Mozilla also wants to provide the final version with the new favorites system: favorites will be automatically sorted by popularity and frequency of use. In addition, Firefox 3.0 also will be also provided with small embedded database, SQL Lite, which will be used for full indexing of visits history. Users will be able to search images and texts and view cached pages. Though, Shrepfer says this feature might be bypassed in the third modification of the browser, Firefox 3.0 will be a rapid and relevant one. Some users have complained that Firefox requires high processing power due to extensions and plug-ins. Shrepfer explained that this fact takes place, because codes for plug-ins are written, for the most part, by amateurs, for whom programming is just a hobby. Very soon, Mozilla is planning to establish a library of tested code, that can be downloaded and used by authors of extensions. The Mozilla.org has also updated the site with extensions, having reduced their number so that beginning users would not unduly burdened their browsers. And within a few weeks forums for developers are goimg to open. Shrepfer also reported that Firefox 4.0 will support JavaScript 2, which is currently being elaborated. JavaScript updating will help to write, and assemble high productive web for those authors who have little experience in codes creating.
