Windows Live OneCare: Another failure of Microsoft
9th March 2007
Microsoft is still unable to create the image of a reliable defender for its complex security solution Windows Live OneCare. The other day, it became clear that OneCare could not pass another test on viruses detection offered this time by the AV Comparatives organization. That means that OneCare has not received any certificate from AV Comparatives at all. At the same time all the major rivals of Microsoft received ratings from "standard" to "advanced” and "advanced +". According to the test results OneCare detected only 82.4% of harmful objects out of 500,000 viruses. Only antivirus Dr. Web got to this result as close as possible, as it detected 89.3% viruses. Among the leaders there were G DATA Security's AntiVirusKit (99.5%) and AVIRA`s AntiVirus PE Premium (98.9%). This is the second test failed by OneCare. In February Virus Bulletin was unable to give the antivirus the award VB100, because OneCare had failed to identify all the viruses from up-to-date list "in the wild " which includes most common threats. Meanwhile, Microsoft assures about constant elaboration of OneCare and correcting the bugs, leading to such low results. Now all Microsoft can do is only to defend its product by received certificates of ICSA Labs, and West Point Checkpoint.
