Windows Update ignores IE8
26th March 2008
The recently released first beta version of Internet Explorer 8 caused some inconveniences to its users. As it turned out, IE8 blocks access to the Windows Update service, which was confirmed by Microsoft. When trying to visit the site, it displays a message about the need to use IE5 and above. Of course, this state of affairs has caused bewilderment, because it is IE8 that is the last generation browser. The solution was found by experience almost immediately: to restore access one must use the button “Emulate IE7” to get to the IE 7 emulation mode. Then one need to restart the browser window.
Microsoft`s response says that the problem is not in the browser, and in the Windows Update site, incorrectly defining IE8. The problem with Windows Update became only one of the problems with IE8. Many users have reported on incorrect displaying various sites, including Facebook, Gmail and Windows Live Mail. Of course, one should not pay much attention to all the deficiencies, as it is a beta version only, which means that Microsoft has enough time to provide users with comfortable web surfing.
