World of Warcraft: cocaine for gamers?
23rd March 2009
Representatives of the Swedish Youth Care Foundation (Stiftelsen Ungdomsvård) strongly believe that the game of World of Warcraft has an addictive property equal to that of the cocaine. They argue that WoW is the most dangerous video game out of all modern entertainments.
The Swedish scientists have studied many different sources and say that among a large number of cases of game addiction reviewed, there was no one which would not relate to World of Warcraft. The scientists call the game the cocaine of the computer world, for people addicted to it can not abandon their weakness themselves.
The vivid example of this report became a 15-year-old Swedish teenager, taken to hospital straight from the fairytale virtual world. The accident took place about a month ago. The boy had an attack similar to epileptic fit. Later, doctors found that the patient had neither slept nor eaten for a long time spent at the computer.
Though the aim of the scientists was to warn inexperienced users and their parents, they only contributed to the increasing popularity of the legendary project.
