Debian GNU / Linux 4.0 â€“ new stable version

The team of developers of one of the most popular GNU / Linux-distributives Debian, which is famous for its stability, â€œlicensing purityâ€ and a wide range of software in binary packs, has announced a release of a new version of product â€“ Debian GNU / Linux 4.0 (â€œetchâ€). It took 21 months for the developers to elaborate Debian GNU / Linux 4.0. The distributive has the compatibility with common FHS (Filesystem Hierarchy Standard) 2.3 and LSB (Linux Standard Base) 3.1. They presented in this release a new long-awaited installator with graphical interface, translated into 58 languages. Among the software in Debian GNU / Linux 4.0 there are Linux-core 2.6.18, graphic environment server X. Org 7.1, working environment KDE 3.5, GNOME 2.14 and Xfce 4.4, office package OpenOffice.org 2.0.4a, graphical editor GIMP 2.2.13, web-browser Iceweasel (â€œlicense pureâ€ , â€œfreeâ€ tapping from Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3), E-mail client Icedove (â€œfreeâ€ from from Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5), internet-utilities Iceape (â€œfreeâ€ tapping from Seamonkey 1.0.8), DBMS PostgreSQL 8.1.8 and MySQL 5.0.32, a set of utilities for compiling GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 4.1.1, web-server Apache 2.2.3, Samba 3.0.24, programming language interpreters Python 2.4.4 and 2.5, Perl 5.8.8, PHP 4.4.4 and 5.2.0, software YATC Asterisk PBX 1.2.13 and another more than 18,000 packages of software.
