DeepFish - mobile browser from Microsoft
1st April 2007
Microsoft has presented for limited testing preliminary version of the mobile web-browser DeepFish at the Conference on advanced technologies O'Reilly (eTech). DeepFish “grasps” the whole page and then transmits it on the mobile phone in a primeval form, and the interface allows you to enlarge some parts of the page for a more detailed viewing. According to Dr. Gary William Flake, the founder and director of Microsoft Live Labs, the new browser will simplify viewing, unlike to the projects, where page is altered and excessive scrolling is required, and it will speed up the download: the browser will process only those parts of the page which the user enlarges for viewing. At present, the browser is more prototype than performing, and its further development will be based on the opinions, said Mr. Flake. The browser can be downloaded from DeepFish page, but at a certain number of downloads access will be closed. This week, another participant of technological incubator Microsoft, independent company Zenzui has presented its innovating development in the field of mobile browsers. This browser splits a page into sections, each of which can be increased. Mr. Flake did not respond directly to the question how the two projects are connected.
