Downloader VBootkit deviates from Windows Vista authorization
13th April 2007
Indian hackers Nitin and Vipin Kumar represented self-made downloader, which allows you to bypass built-in software for authorization the code in Windows Vista. The downloader has been named as VBootkit, it starts with the compact disk, and makes the necessary changes in the operating memory and system files thus bypassing authorization system. As it is well known OS Vista had been especially developed using the close core technology, preventing the programs from using the commands that affect it directly. At the demonstration, VBootkit has successfully gained privileges of the core of operating system, at the same time it hasn`t got the digital signature of Microsoft. The demonstration took place on the platform Vista Release Candidate 2. According to the hackers, the demonstration was held at this build, because the recent versions of the distributive are too expensive. This information was already confirmed by American cryptograph and a specialist on computer security Bruce Schneider. Because the functionality of the exploit was confirmed even by a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association for cryptological Studies and a member of the Advisory Council of Electronic Privacy Information Centre (it is, of course, Schneier) Windows Vista can be regarded as finally “vanquished”. But a question arises: “Whether to install Vista on the computer, even after you have got VBootkit”. Taking into account the serious problems with the animated cursor, which have given a lot of troubles to both developers and users, it is difficult to answer this question.
