Friends on Fire: new rival to Google Latitude and the like services
16th April 2009
Friends on Fire: new rival to Google Latitude and the like services Yahoo introduced a new service called Friends on Fire, which somehow resembles Google Latitude. They are really alike, in a way, but the Google service uses its own technologies to determine the location of users and to control access to this information. While the Yahoo service, just the other way round, can be used in conjunction with the service of Fire Eagle, which allows storing and sharing the user's location with authorized applications, and even with Facebook. In this case, it is Facebook that decides who to share information with.
We wonder if the Yahoo project will be able to compete with the existing services. At least, it is likely to survive.
