Google Earth found ancient fish trap
13th April 2009
Google Earth helped archaeologists to discover a huge trap for fish. The presumable age of the finding is about 1000 years. The trap is made in the form of a cone and is more than 300 meters long. It was found through careful studying satellite images of the underwater terrain near the coast of Wales. At the top of the cone there is a hole where the fishing net is likely to have been located. During the rising tide the fish swam into a trap, but got locked into it.
Now the ancient trap is entirely under water at a depth of about four meters. Google reports that the conical structure has been visible in the pictures published by the company since December 2006 already.
