IBM has developed web-browser for the blind
9th April 2007
IBM Company is trying to make the contents of web pages more accessible to blind people, says http://www.engadget.com. To do this the programmers from IBM have developed a new browser which will detach the audio and video materials published in a page from other content. The product, named Accessibility Browser (or A-Browser) will enable users to play audio and video by convenient keyboard combinations without resorting to the mouse. Besides, the blind will be able to use a number of additional features, such as the accelerated and slowed playing of video-clips, and also the choice of alternative track if there is any. At present, the browser “understands” multimedia formats of Real Player and Windows Media Player. It is worth while noting that the work on the project is headed by the member of the company with bad sight.
