Nvidia files action against Intel
23rd April 2009
The company of Nvidia filed an action against Intel, accusing the latter of violating the license agreement. This action was a response to the Intel`s earlier lawsuit, filed against Nvidia in February 2009. This was reported in the press release given by Nvidia.
Nvidia believes that the license agreement of 2004 gives them right to produce chipsets for all processors of Intel. As Intel prohibits Nvidia to manufacture chipsets for Nehalem processors, it violates the terms of this agreement. Moreover, in its lawsuit Nvidia asks the court to suspend the Intel license for the Nvidia technologies. The point is that in February this year, Intel filed the action against Nvidia, accusing the latter in the illegal development of chipsets for Intel processors of new generation, including the memory controller. These chips include processors based on the Nehalem architecture. Intel believes that the license agreement made between the companies in 2004, does not allow Nvidia to produce such chipsets.
After Intel filed a lawsuit against Nvidia, the representatives of the latter stated that currently the role of the graphics processor in the computer becomes more significant. Intel resists this trend, in order to protect their own business. Nvidia chipsets use graphics processors of the GeForce 9300 and 9400 video cards, the performance of which is significantly higher than that of Intel. As the basis of new laptops Nvidia chipsets were chosen by the company Apple.
