OpenOffice 3.0: full support of MS Office 2007
11th April 2008
Information appeared in the OpenOffice developers` blog regarding innovations of the next version of the office package. The third version is going to be released in about six months, and now the developers focus on correcting errors (more than two thousand of them). As for the main functions, they have been already defined.
The main innovation is the support of the new Open XML format, in which MS Office 2007 documents are saved by default. OpenOffice 3 is free to open such files, revise them and save into this format.
The text editor Writer includes the ability to display pages next to each other and adding comments on the fields. The table editor of Calc introduces new visual themes, increases the maximum number of lines to 1024. As for the program for creating presentations Impress, now it can create tables.
