Programme helped to create 3D model of Mona Lisa
5th April 2007
German researchers Volker Blanz and Thomas Vetter have presented a striking development - the oscillating model for the creation of 3D faces. The system has a database consisting of two hundred different models of faces. With simple control elements you can easily transform original model, giving it male and female features, making it sulky or smiling, etc. But that is not the most interesting thing. Using this changing model, the system can create 3D image of any person on the basis of the single photo. At the same time, the matching of features is automatic, and also texture and lighting is matched. After creating the exact 3D copy of the model you can animate it, for example, you can see how a face would look if a person would take on or grow thin. You can also make it wink or smile. Demo video created by German scientists would show better than any words this development. This demo shows the capabilities of the system by the pictures of Tom Hanks and Audrey Hapbern, and also by Mona Lisa. In a few seconds from the famous picture of Leonardo da Vinci emerges a 3D model. Video can be viewed on YouTube.
