SUSE Linux Enterprise 11: close to full compatibility with Windows and .NET

Novell company has announced the forthcoming on one of these days an official release of a new version of SUSE Linux 11 platform. The main innovation of the server version of SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 is the full-fledged implementation of Mono technology, which allows the starting of .NET-application for Windows systems on SUSE Linux servers.
The ability to run .NET applications on SLES (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server) is implemented through Mono Extension module form the moment of purchasing of Ximian company, which had developed the graphic Gnome environment and started Mono project. Two years ago, Novell made a treaty about the strategic partnership with Microsoft and is currently producing the server platform, which allows the performance of .NET-applications, even in IBM System environment. Desktop version of SUSE Linux Enterprise 11, based on the same Linux kernel 2.6.27, as the server version, offers users a useful enhancement Moonlight for Firefox browser. This enhancement allows you to play multymedia content transmitted in Microsoft Silverlight format. For a long time there were talks about the implementation of such Novell and Microsoft technology, but the first complete version of Moonlight 1.0 was released only in January 2009, and now is delivered in a set SLE 11.
