The OLPC project`s having hard time
13th April 2009
The project One Laptop Per Child is now undergoing a number of great difficulties related, primarily, to the lack of sponsors. Recently, Nicholas Negroponte, the founder of the project announced that they would possible replace the AMD Geode x86-processorto the ARM one.
In January, in connection with a significant reduction in funding, the development of the educational Sugar platform (based on Linux, Python and GTK) had been stopped, which was given at the mercy of the community. This platform could be ported with little effort to the architecture of ARM, but Negroponte publicly asked the company Microsoft to port Windows XP to ARM.
Given the scarcity of funding, insufficient staff, the unscheduled change of platform and lack of any clear strategy it is not clear what is to become of the project.
