Thing one must know before creating a MMOG
6th April 2009
Thing one must know before creating a MMOG Recently, EverQuest from SOE celebrated its 10-year anniversary. To celebrate this event American journalists published a series of articles on a variety of interesting matters associated with this game. A chief programmer of the project, Steve Klug, in one of these articles talked about the ten things one should know before one creates to specialize in MMOG-making.
Here are some moments of his “confession”:
Problems on servers can occur any time;
Classes` balance is a very questionable matter;
One needs to carefully choose features to put into a game and take into account the importance of each one;
Gamers are much friendlier in a personal communication rather than on forums;
Sometimes simple changes can make users happy more than a sophisticated update;
The third part of all players hates avatar models you offer;
If you want to make but a small change, do it as carefully as you can.
